One is a Hawaiian legend who has stretched the boundaries of slack key guitar music while remaining true to the soul of its deeply Hawaiian roots.

The other is a rising star of the next generation of slack key players, who uses the style’s open tunings to explore multiple genres with ease and flair.

Together, they present an evening of superb guitar that explores the beauty of Hawaiian music as it reflects its native land, the range of Hawai‘i’s many cultural influences, and the complexity of technique that has shaped the distinctively resonant sounds of Hawai‘i.

Both Keola & Jeff are featured on the soundtrack of the film The Descendants, starring George Clooney.

They are joined by lovely dancer Moanalani Beamer, who brings hula and Hawaiian chants to the stage, and adds musical texture with ancient Hawaiian instruments.

JEFF PETERSON, was born on the Island of Maui and grew up on the slopes of the Haleakala volcano where he was introduced to the rich heritage of Hawaiian music and to guitar by his father, a paniolo (Hawaiian cowboy) on Haleakala Ranch. At an early age, he began to pick up influences from such Hawai‘i slack key greats as the Gabby Pahinui Band, Leonard Kwan, and Sonny Chillingworth. As he began studying on his own, he delved into a wide variety of musical genres for guitar and went on to study jazz and classical guitar. Five of Jeff’s songs are featured in the award-winning George Clooney film The Descendants. A two-time Grammy winner, Jeff was featured on Slack Key Guitar, Volume 2 which won the first-ever Grammy Award for Best Hawaiian recording, and received his second Grammy in 2010 for his contribution to George Kahumoku’s Masters of Slack Key Guitar vol. 2. He has recorded 6 solo CDs to date, winning Best Slack Key Album at the 2010 & 2014 Na Hoku Hanohano (Hawaiian Grammy) Awards and a Grammy nomination for Maui on My Mind. Jeff has worked with a wide range of artists including Eric Clapton, Led Kaapana, James Galway, Michael Feinstein, and the Honolulu Symphony, among others. more >>>
