The North Georgia Bluegrass Band has been performing in the Northeast Georgia area for nearly four decades, playing music with drive, spirit, and vocal harmonies true to the bluegrass tradition while incorporating songs from other musical genres.

The NGBB musicians:
Chris White – Lead Guitar; Lead Vocals
Born in West Va., Chris has been playing guitar and singing Bluegrass in Georgia for the past 35 years. Other than a few short stints with a country rock band, he has tried to remain traditional in his approach to Bluegrass. Inspired by many great guitar players, he considers Chet Atkins to be one of, if not "the" greatest of them all. A stronger vocalist than a picker, he is mindful of his fingers as he does carpentry work and strives to be the best he can.

Larry 'Mule' Saye – Rhythm Guitar; Lead-Tenor Vocals
Mule has been playing bluegrass music since 1971. A native Athenian, he joined the North Georgia Bluegrass Band in 1975. After retiring from the University of Georgia, he promoted bluegrass music shows in Georgia and North Carolina. Larry is glad to be playing and performing onstage with the band again.

Antoon Speters – Mandolin; Resophonic Guitar; Baritone & Lead Vocals
Antoon has played mandolin, guitar, and banjo for different bands for over 30 years, but has found a new and comfortable home with the NGBB. He said, "I really enjoy playing music with these guys, we stay within the tradition, but we are always open to new ideas. They even let me yodel."

Rich Born – Banjo; Vocals
Rich took up playing banjo 35 years ago after being inspired by the likes of Earl Scruggs, John McEuen, and John Hartford. Since that time he has played and performed with a variety of groups in Ohio and Georgia. Despite his passion for playing the banjo, he is yet to quit his day job as psychologist. His banjo playing has been described as being Loud yet occasionally even musical. Rich loves all sorts of music and has been known to sing when he gets a chance.

Phyllis Walls - Upright Bass, Vocals.
Phyllis started playing bluegrass in 1981 with local bluegrass legends "Southern Crescent," of which Rich Born was also a member. She's been playing regularly ever since, in groups that run the gamut of musical styles ranging from Rock-a-billy to Rock-Fusion . With NGBB, though, she keeps it traditional. She likes to slap the bass, which she feels is more productive than slapping her band-mates!

Bill David - Mandolin; lead and harmony vocals.
Although Bill is the newest member of NGBB, he has been a dynamic part of the Athens music scene for a long time. Bill is a multi-talented musician who currently also performs with Bob Hay and the Jolly Beggars and the Athens supergroup: Supercluster. NGBB definitely benefits from the addition of Bill’s energy, talents, and good natured self. more >>>
