By Golly, Get Jolly! Join The Athens A-Train Band, with featured vocalist Christina LaFontaine, as they perform jazz standards with a variety of musical styles including swing, latin, ballads, blues and boogie - with a festive twist. This year, they will be joined by Master Magician Ben Robinson to bring a very Magical Jingle Bell Christmas to Athens. A combination of jazz standards and Christmas tunes (Santa Baby, Please Come Home For Christmas, Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire, and more) will be intertwined seamlessly throughout the evening with some unbelievable illusions that will wow even the most skeptical Scrooge! So bring your dancing shoes and your favorite people to celebrate with and we'll see you there for some Magical Jingle Bell Jazz! Our guest artist for the evening, Ben Robinson, is considered one of the greatest magicians to ever live!

Christina LaFontaine, featured vocalist for the Athens A-Train Band, brings energy and an easy stage presence to the group. She especially enjoys singing ballads and latin arrangements of jazz standards. Beginning her jazz standard appreciation at an incredibly young age, she truly feels and appreciates the genre and her 10+ years of vocal training have added a polish to her natural talent.
Mike Jones plays tenor saxophone for the Athens A-Train Band. Mike is a talented jazz soloist who is able to interpret songs of various musical styles in a sophisticated yet intensely soulful manner. He plays in the style of the great jazz saxophonists such as Ben Webster and Stan Getz. His thorough understanding of music and creative tune writing provides the band with original compositions and new ideas song arrangements. For example, an energetic tango that Mike wrote and that A-Train performs is packed with intensity and fills the dance floor.

David Gastley plays guitar for the Athens A-Train Band. He has been playing music in the Athens area for over 20 years. Dave's guitar stylings reflect the influence of Joe Pass, the renowned guitar recording artist who worked with all the jazz greats. He transitions flawlessly from jazz, swing, ballads and latin to blues. As several of Dave's fans have remarked, “... he can make the guitar sing".

Darrin Cook, who plays upright bass for the Athens A-Train Band, is a serious musician who has excelled in playing bass, both upright and electric, in a considerable number of bands in the Athens area. He has served as the principal double bassist for the Athens Symphony. One of his skills that keep him in demand as a side man is his uncanny ability to " make a song work". He has the skill to play music of various styles always in an outstanding manner. Darrin’s solid technique and artistic prowess add greatly to Athens A-Train Band's unique sound.

Jamie DeRevere plays drums for the Athens A-Train Band. Jamie has also played in a number of bands in the Athens area, quite often with Darrin Cook. They have known each all their lives growing up locally as cousins. Jamie and Darrin form the rhythm section of the band and their play together is impeccable. Jamie is a master of all the jazz and swing beats from intricate latin rhythms to bebop. He is able to play a ballad tastefully and to really let loose with an up-tempo jazz tune.

Pat Strawser is featured on the keyboard. Pat is a very active keyboard player in the Athens/Atlanta area, playing with a variety of wedding bands, jazz groups, churches, and original outfits. While at home playing almost any style, Pat has a particular affinity for jazz. His unique improvisational approach bears resemblance to influences as disparate as Bill Evans, Floyd Cramer, and Rick Wakeman. When not onstage, he is a prolific composer and enjoys writing and recording original material in his home studio. more >>>

Our guest artist for the evening, Ben Robinson, is considered one of the greatest magicians to ever live. A rare breed; he's both a historian and an original artist. In 2017, he toured 22 cities in North America gaining standing ovations, raising consciousness and providing laughter and heaps of wonder. He is the author of 14 books and lives in New York City.
