Hubby Jenkins (of Carolina Chocolate Drops)
Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at 7PM
Doors open 6:00 PM
Hubby Jenkins is a talented multi-instrumentalist who endeavors to share his love and knowledge of old-time American music. Born and raised in Brooklyn he delved into his Southern roots, following the thread of African American history that wove itself through country blues, ragtime, fiddle and banjo, and traditional jazz. Hubby got his higher musical education started as a busker. He developed his guitar and vocal craft on the sidewalks and subway platforms of New York City, performing material by those venerable artists whose work he was quickly absorbing. An ambitiously itinerant musician, he took his show on the road, playing the streets, coffee shops, bars, and house parties of cities around the U.S.

After years of busking around the country and making a name for himself, Hubby became acquainted with the Carolina Chocolate Drops. Since 2010 he has been an integral part of the Grammy award winning Carolina Chocolate Drops and continues to make solo performances.

Rabbit Box Storytelling "Trying Times and Triumphs, Too"- A celebration of Older Americans Month, in collaboration with ACCA
Rabbit Box
Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at 7PM
Doors open 5:00 PM
Rabbit Box is a forum in Athens that strives to build a stronger sense of community through storytelling. For the month of May, which is nationally recognized as Older Americans Month, Rabbit Box will collaborate with the Athens Community Council on Aging, a terrific local nonprofit that serves older adults of Northeast Georgia. The theme for Rabbit Box’s monthly show in May is Trying Times and Triumphs, Too - on the 8th at The Foundry and will spotlight the many interesting elders over 60 in our community who will tell true stories pulled from their rich lives. Our emcee for this event is J.R. Green and our storytellers will be announced soon!

This year’s theme for Older American’s month is Connect, Create, Contribute. That’s exactly what the storytellers will do: create and contribute compelling stories that will help others connect with a broader history of events that have shaped our town, state and nation and its residents.

Tickets are $7 in advance and $9 ($7 with college ID) at the door!
